Alight Motion does not support opening or importing XML files, including Alight Motion Project XML files. XML is a generic format that can be used for many different things (even spreadsheet files are often stored in XML).
Alight Motion Scene XML is a special format that is based on XML and is intended for use by developers building workflow automations or interoperability with other apps. Alight Motion Scene XML files do not contain any media content, and they cannot be used to import projects into Alight Motion, because they were not designed for that purpose and do not contain the full information needed to recreate a project.
Alight Motion Scene XML cannot be used for backup or sharing. If you see any YouTubers or other content creators offering XML files in their project links, please know that they are doing this incorrectly, as these files will not work in the current version of Alight Motion.
Due to a bug in a previous version of Alight Motion, a hidden feature of Alight Motion designed for unit testing was left enabled in production, and that meant it was sometimes possible to re-import some XML files on the same device they were originally exported from, but this process was unreliable and caused many problems when editing the projects after importing. To ensure the reliability of Alight Motion and reduce errors and crashes, this feature has been disabled as originally intended. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
If you would like to import, back up, or share projects, please use the Project Package sharing option! You can share project packages in the form of Alight Links or QR codes. If you’re just importing a project package, you do not need a subscription to Alight Motion as long as the project package is under 5 MB in size!
